There's several threads about this, but I haven't seen a poll about specific ones so I voted. If I were you, I'd use vBadvanced. If you're only looking to add one extra page then maybe vBindex, but for multiple pages vBadvanced is your best choice I think.

Well vBa seems to have a huge majority here. Then again, why wouldn't it? :D

I like vba's backend module system.

I've never used anything but vBadvanced. I (with a lot of help) have been able to make it work like I wanted it to. The support is absolutly fantastic for a free mod! I've been very happy with vBadvanced.

I agree. They provide really good support for something that's free :) .

so what is a vbulletin portal and what does it do?

I use the portal as a homepage for my forums. It has information pulled from the forums as well as addtional information about the "web site". For me, it makes a discussion board based site look more like a traditional web site. I also believe that it helps my users navigate the site.

You can take a look at my portal here. (http://www.ddrcn.org)

Basically you can create vBulletin-powered pages with them. I'm not an expert on this but I know you can use vB functions and stuff with them. They're better than regular PHP pages because they're integrated a lot more with the forums.

If any one use vbadvansed their website will be so slow .. because poeple is sick from going to every site and find a same portal all over again .. they will not west their time.. for join .. so i'am telling everyone who use vba to stop and use a custom portal or CMS that u can custom it .. because remember it is the first Entry for the site.. so be away from vba u can use phpnuke / or any other portal ..

if u see the Active website in the net.. they never use vba only the small website that just start .. .. they have it installing

Thankyou

custom portals are the best, but if you want anything good you'll need to know some half good php. although making a simple portal is pretty damn easy :P

You gotta be joking mate....I've stopped using Nuke because I'm sick to death of it getting destroyed by Hackers.

The first portal I used was vBadvanced. I didn't really like it very much. It took a long time to install and I only wanted to use it as a homepage. Right now I'm using vBindex. I like it a lot better for a couple reasons include the ease of set up and that it had just what I was looking for.

vBindex is a good portal, especially if you're just looking to set up one vB-powered page.

I've been using vBIndex for awhile, however I recently converted to vBAdvanced. Once you learn how to use it, it is amazing.
