View Full Version : How did you get your vBulletin?
Floris 26th February 2005, 08:14 PM Either your first or latest or only license .. which one, and how did you get it?
Take a pick!
*the warez option is not a joke, pick it and I respect you for your honesty*
Mike54 26th February 2005, 08:19 PM I purchased an owned license, just 15 days ago. Long enough ago that I have already started to forget about the hassles of that "other" software...

Floris 26th February 2005, 08:20 PM I purchased my first license fresh retail from vbulletin.com for $160 :)
My second was second hand I think, and then I had a few new ones, and a few second hand ones.
After a year I sold a few again and donated one to infusesoft.com and I had a few leased licenses for customers which are now transferred to them.
I won 1x owned in a competition (which is what vbulletin.nl runs on now!)
I am sure I will own more in the future :)
Schizoid Man 26th February 2005, 08:53 PM I bought my leased 2 weeks ago, and I think I'll be upgrading to owned before the first month is up.
If you want credibility, stability, security....and a company that doesn't do corporate U turns and revised pricing structures every few months, then vBulletin is the only one for you. There is no alternative!
Floris 26th February 2005, 09:36 PM Newbies so far, but very welcome. Nice to have you with us and letting me know how you got it. :)
acers 26th February 2005, 09:39 PM hmm got a leased license for now. Will see how it goes. If the site is as good as we hope it will be, i will go for a owned license.
BTW this is one board software that is worth the money i recko
Couch 26th February 2005, 10:18 PM I purchased a version after umming and ahhing for around 12 months. In that time I did download a warez version and installed it just to have a play around with it. Once I saw all the options and detail involved I went and bought it proper :)
Moparx 26th February 2005, 11:29 PM i purchased my owned license from vbulletin approx 7 months ago.
having admined a vbulletin forum before starting my own, i knew vbulletin was the only way to go :)
DarkWarriorXII 26th February 2005, 11:38 PM I bought my one and only owned vBulletin license several months ago from vB.com. Hopefully one day I'll win another one in a competition...
Freezer 26th February 2005, 11:41 PM My first vbulletin was illegal *shame* (vb1.3 or so)
I ran it for a couple of months, then purchased it. Now i have 2 owned licenses :)
I admit, with most software i try before i buy :)
Isis 27th February 2005, 12:13 AM We got our license direct from vBulletin.com after I stumbled on the live demo last June........ love at first site. 24 hours later we had a leased license and 48 hours later we went live with the new forum (it was previously phpBB). We went for leased first as this was the first time we were using vBulletin and we just wanted to be sure it would work for us but we'll probably get an owned license soon.
Floris 27th February 2005, 12:24 AM Great stories people, keep them coming! And thank you all for voting (so far)
daemon 27th February 2005, 08:27 AM I started out on phpBB but then recreated the forum (didn't import) on vBulletin back in September of 2003 (I can't believe it was really that long ago!). But I dumped that forum and now run a completely separate forum that I converted from IPB. I chose bought my owned license from vBulletin.com.
Mephisteus 27th February 2005, 08:30 AM Bought my owned license second hand for $70, not a bad deal :)
Oblivion Knight 27th February 2005, 11:09 AM I was bought my very first leased license for me as part of a business deal. The client lived in the US somewhere and wanted some perl coding done for them; They didn't use paypal and I didn't know the required information for a bank transfer (I still don't) - so I mentioned to them that I'd spend the money purchasing a vBulletin leased license anyway and they bought it for me and transferred it over.
Close to it's expiration date, I purchased an owned license with my own hard-earnt cash via the vbulletin.com site. $160.
Slave 28th February 2005, 11:00 PM used to use UBB .. but moved across to vB about 4 years ago .. and never looked back :)
Daniel P 1st March 2005, 12:18 AM I won my license in a competition on creations.nl back in 2003. Won't ever forget the moment!! :)
gruchacz 3rd March 2005, 07:35 PM I purchased a licence..... thinking of getting another one for another site I am thinking of opening.
KingSpade 3rd March 2005, 07:47 PM It doesn't appear that vBulletin marks the date of purchase in the members area so I had to dig through PayPal to see just when I bought my first license :). Searching through 3 years of data wasn't quick ;).
vBulletin Owned - Purchased July 22, 2002
I believe I may have purchased one before this as well since I have 4 owned licenses as of right now and PayPal only has a record of 3 owned and 1 leased.
Reeve of Shinra 4th March 2005, 03:46 AM Purchased an owned liscenced years ago and picked up two more since. :)
Disjunto 4th March 2005, 04:13 AM my first license was a leased license, didn't think my ofrums would get anywhere, but about 9-10 months into that license i bought myself an owned license, because my board were kicking off. I have now renewed that owned license after it expired and bought another leased license for another project that may or may not take off :)
redalert5 4th March 2005, 04:59 AM went to vb.com and bought it,
Neutral Singh 4th March 2005, 10:53 AM Well, i struggled with phpBB for 4-5 months and then almost decided to go for IPB but they took an aweful time to respond to my simple query, which bugged me off and then as the luck would have it, i posted a few queries in vbulletin.com and got the replies almost instantly and when i explored their admin demo, there was no looking back.
A miser that i am, i prepared cost analysis sheet for my expenditure in coming five years and found out that owning a vBulltin license would save me a lots of bucks in the long run and here i am with a fully owned vBulletin licence for $160 ... bought it in Sep' 2004 and since then have seen my forums forge ahead like never before. :) Hopefully, will buy another one in future not far off... ;)
Thanks vBulletin
