On our site there are now 3 discussions running about users who requested their information to be deleted from our database, which we declined.

Where do I find out if they have the right to request this, or if we have the right to decline it?

My idea about this is: If you post on our site, the post content is your copyright, but the post is in our database, so my property. If I decide to delete it or not, is up to me. And the user gets a timelimit for editing and deleting the post. If he or she asks afterwards to get deleted from our userbase, we validate that request, but we will not remove the name from the post, or the posts. The usergroup will change to 'Guest'. The request to delete the posts too is declined.

Theres a thread about this subject somewhere on theadminzone.com that you may want to read but generally speaking I, and alot of other admins, wont delete members or posts unless there are extenuating circumstances (then I may just put them into tachy).

Some sites delete members that haven't posted in a certain period of time, if you have such a policy, you can let the members in question know that.

When the user signed up he agreed that the content is yours and you can duplicate, delete or modify that at any point. Regardless if he wrote it and says its his copyright. If you prefer not to delete posts or users, so be it.

Floris, I think he's talking about that particular user's personal information (i.e. mail address, age etc)
