You can add your URL to various sites through cross linking, through advertisement, through deals and spamming it, whatever you feel you can do.
You can also add your URL to directories, like DMOZ.. but are there more?
Do you know where it is handy to get your URL added too?
Perhaps we could get a list, that would certainly help those novice ones :\

I've seen huge lists on the web and I've seen sites charging ridiculous prices to submit your site to every search engine in existance. But if you sit back and think about it, why would you want to do that? If you don't know those search engines exist then how will your site visitors know about them? The majority will use the big players- Google, yahoo, MSN, alta vista, ask, teoma, dmoz etc. If you look carefully some of those are owned by the same company or use the google or yahoo index. Therefore you can narrow it down to Google, Yahoo, MSN, Ask and DMOZ. The first four will find you as long as you have at least one good link to your site and DMOZ is the only one you have to worry about submitting to. Your time is best spent SEoptimising your site and establishing long-term quality back-links (spamming will only hurt your chances of a good ranking).
