I read that I can modify a style so when an image attachment is clicked, the image opens in a new window or tab. I'm wondering what other people prefer.

It really depends on the site, how fast it is, and how large the images are.

But mostly i prefere opening in the same window. Then I just hit backspace and I'm back where I was. No extra windows, no need to click twice due to Firefox pop-up blocker, no extra system resources needed. :)

When I want a picture to open in a new window or tab, I right-click and select open in new window or tab. ;)

Agreed, I've closed vbulletin.nl around 10 times today due to being used to closing the window :D

I voted for " open new window in a new tab ". But not in a new window. If it opens in a new tab i'm fine with it. I don't use a tabbed browser for nothing. If I woulf want more windows, I should just use Microsoft Internet Explorer.

I use Mouse Gestures on Firefox 1 which really simplifies things when you know the what gestures are.

Simply hold right button down and move left which is the same as backspace/previous page... if the previous page doesn't appear then the image has loaded in a new window/tab, so hold right button down and move down-right - this closes the tab/window.

Thanks for everyone who voted in my poll. I didn't get a chance to vote, but one vote won't change much. And it looks like I'm in the minority. I guess I'm just hooked on using the mouse buttons to go back and forth.
