Wow that is crazy.

Most of my threads all go over 10 pages easily but I end up closing them when they get too far off topic.

The largest thread on my forum so far is the "Insult Thread" 19 pages, 541 replies, 3,387 views. It's a place for members to trash talk one another. It's all in good fun. Nobody takes anyone else seriously.

:D

the common denominator in those threads and maybe on other "hot" threads, is they seem to need fewer people to keep them going, there are probably 10 or so regular posters on each....

i counted 440 unique posters on the random mundane facts thread with 80 unique posters on the threadkiller comp - thats a lot of people with too much time on their hands ;) :D

ps. btw, not me - i didn't actually 'count' them all, just got up the list of who posted. i'm bored this week, but not that bored. :D

yes, but 4 posters have posted over 2800 times between them on the mundane thread, over a quarter of the total posts on that thread..

i seem to have more than enough time on my hands at the mo:D

and on the thread killer, 2 posters have posted nearly a quarter of the entire thread...

and tonight, both of those threads nearly died after fighting broke out. had to wag my finger several times to regain peace. even had to post two pictures of kittens.

even had to post two pictures of kittens. must have been really bad to do that...i didn't look at them last night, i tend to forget about them for a while, then they pop up to the top of the page and i dind myself looking at them again, and sometimes even posting on them:\

the scary thing is of the current 5,324 posts (it's gone up again) 2,417 of them are just two posters thats over 45%

57% if you include my posts

Well there is this stupid anime role playing forum for kids (its pg-13 ONOOS) but anyways, in some role playing or guild threads there are just thousands and thousands of pages, ill try to screen one.

Anybody here with a hot thread...'we might need to close that' ???

I have found that judicious pruning is much more effective way to control this than simply letting a thread get huge, then closing it.

Typically, as a thread grows, the conversation may drift in a couple of different directions and you can end up with several good discussions, some of which will do the same.

I've had one hot thread yield a couple of dozen large--but manageable--discussions.
