I own a domain name called "MoreHotDeals.com". in addition to my many other domain names. I am considering making a community site for people that want to share information about good deals found on the internet.

The site would offer free listing to those who are giving away free services and products. People would share information through a vbulletin forum.

What do you think? Do you think this is a good idea? Yes/No? Why?

Its an idea that is successfully being used by sites like mycoupons.com (http://www.mycoupons.com/) and slickdeals.net (http://www.slickdeals.net/) and it works! But its hard to get things off ground!

I am just playing with the idea. I am going to have ot start looking for help on this. It does not appear to be a one man project. I already own the domain name tho. If I choose not to use it, I can always sell it.

Note that free usually means spam.

Make sure that certain forum topics that are sensitive to spam use new thread moderation or have active moderators to keep an eye out for abuse.

Won't take long for users to randomly spam the forums to post their affiliate/referral links to increase their income.

The idea is nice and vBulletin is a great tool for users to share their resources and have others comment on it.

I think it's a nice idea, but I do also share Floris' worries.

My sister and I currently run a site like that myself using vB and vBCMPS..( link in sig;) ) And it is very hard to get off the ground. You have to be different and you also have to be careful of the "others" who usually don't take it well when another deals site starts to take off..at least that's my experience. I've gotten everything from hateful emails to ppl taking our usernames off of our site and making users at their site so it looks as if we are over there posting as well..Strange things I tell ya...Just be prepared for anything, it's a very competitive business.

I think it is a great idea, especially if that is what you want to do and intend to make some money with it. Just don't spam, and you will do fine! Good luck
