Another How-To question.

I have lots of forums and a couple hundred users. But sometimes it seems that the frequency of posts just drops dead.

How do I get people to continue posting. This is a hobby site so I make no money from it. I am trying to avoid any solutions that require me to spend money.

New sites should have a few forums and gradually grow. Instead of a lot of forums and appear empty to newcomers.

Professor Caldini (Ph.D in psychology, ASU) writes in one of his books that there is a rule called "Social proof". In other words, when in doubt people look to others for what to do.

If they see a bunch of empty forums, chances are they are going to leave them empty, if they see forums with content, they are more likely to post. The same goes true for tip jars. Many musicians salt their tip jars with a few dollars of their own money to get things going better.

Try posting several random discussion starters in each of the forums..

Crazy, but it works!

Or you could invite people like our top poster 2nd place from the top. If that doesn't help getting "posts", I don't know.
