i dont use PM system much, i normally chat to the people i want on IRC, or MSN/AIM. If i can't talk to them that way i'll use PM or email, but only as a last minute resort

I usually talk to whoever I need to via IRC, so I don't use the PM system alot. Although, I do recieve around 5 daily around the forums I go to.

The Admin PM box allows a quota of 5.000 private messages and at this moment I am filling up half of that. I just deleted a bunch, and the total shows: Total 2.103, uhoh!
I use it on a daily basis and without the ability to send private messages, my forum wouldn't function as right as it does right now. It is a great alternative to instant message over the web.

My first forum has been up around 6 months and I have used 2,000+ of my 5,000 quota (so around 11 a day). For me PM's are a vital way that my members can communicate with me about the forum.
I have a special forum for my Staff which we use for admin stuff rather than PM as it gets hard to track who the PM's are going to and makes debate a little harder.
But 1-1 PM is king.
I have also implemented Flash Chat on my forum but haven't used it much.

I prefer an IM system, or iRC over vBPM system simply because it is faster, though sometimes PM is convientant when you cant get ahold of someone otherwise.

I use PMs for keeping track of important info, like shipping addresses and project notes. It's a lot more reliable than IM for me (as I tend to be on 2 or 3 computers a day) and easier than leaving email on whatever server the data is sent to.
I have maybe 50 or so, it's about time to clean things out.

I do send a lot of private messages(66 is the number in my inbox right about now) although I don't usually "get" pms I usually send one and then get a reply. But on a lot of forums I really love the private messaging feature ^_^

I don't get a lot of "personal" ones on my site, but yeah, as time goes on they build up... very handy feature!
