I'm interested in a few hacks (warning: vb newbie here) but I seem to have problems locating areas to get them. Are they all available for download on this forum? If you install them correctly there shouldn't be any problems. vBulletin.org (http://www.vbulletin.org) is the best place to go for vBulletin mods/hacks. AlfonsoC 25th January 2005, 05:45 AM Not many hacks installed on my system but.... * vB CMPS/Gallery/Links * v3articles that some day of those I'll get rid of it. * ProStyle 1.x (not quite a hack, but many people noted it as a hack). Planning to evolve it to different colors, but keeping the general layout. Along this, some template modifications fruit of users request, like: * Show the attachments in the same/other window (user selectable). * Display a link for the personal gallery of a user (on CP and Showthread template). * Others that cannot remember now. :D Not a quite hacked site but is in constant evolution due to requests of users. Robert 25th January 2005, 06:11 AM If you install them correctly there shouldn't be any problems. If only this were so. I have found that a lot of hacks don't slow down my board much, but some don't work with each other. If you have them both installed then one will start to do very strange things. The best example I have is the QuickEdit hack and the vB Journal. The QuickEdit hack was working fine until I installed the Journal. After that if you used the QuickEdit hack to edit your posts it would open the pop-up screen but when you clicked save it would move the post to the very start of the thread and remove your name and user info from the postibit. And if you then tried to delete this post it would delete the whole thread. I should point out that these sort of things are unusual but can happen. So if you have no idea what you are doing and don’t understand the code you are installing make sure you ask some questions on the various help boards first and possibly even get a professional to do the install for you. Interesting... seeing as I have both installed but experienced little problems with either hack. I found that the Quick Edit box does indeed move up when you click to save (or even when you click to hide it) but only slightly (half a page or so) and it doesn't delete anything. MGM out sim tech 26th January 2005, 02:14 AM This thread is very helpful - it shows me what mods are the most popular. I started to install vbindex, but during one of the first steps it asked me to mod a file with a cgi-bin setting... so I deleted it. My website doesn't have cgi ability (what do you expect for $3.33 a month) but it runs vbulletin fine. Does this really need cgi-bin access? I'm running ver 3.0.6 with the 01/22 BB security patch. The following mods work fine: v3arcade "members who posted today" pm.php user.php hack for PMs Vbookie 6 color schemes from vbulletin.com's site ( I think they were posted by Floris) I've poked around on this site & vbulletin.org but can't find any info on for The pm reader v1.2? I'm hoping to install: Professional Syle Pack Spell check ( will this eat up bandwidth?) *A mod for the expanded stats, like they use on here *The hack that shows the calendar month on the right side *Advance Editing options for mods/admins A mode where if the superadmin edits any post, it doesn't leave a footnote that it was edited. The 3 that I marked with * are ones that I'm interested in but don't know what they are called. I only purchased 3 days ago and my only experience with message boards was Cutecast. I don't know PBP or MySQL, but so far all mods were easy. DarkWarriorXII 26th January 2005, 08:32 AM If only this were so. I suppose you're right. I never really thought about different hacks interfering with each other. Apoco 26th January 2005, 09:33 AM Not even sure how many I do/do not have installed.....~50% are custom made ones tho. Couch 26th January 2005, 07:00 PM At the moment I just have the Statistik hack (which I need to upgrade to version 3), and vbadvanced CMPS. daemon 27th January 2005, 03:14 PM Public modifications: - vBArcade - UShop and UCash - Who was Online Today - Inline Moderation Tools - New User Welcome PM - Mass-Give UCash (Gimme) - Automatic birthday thread - TalkerBot And then a few custom things: - Diary CP - Voting booth - Shoutbox - TVS (Template Versioning System) - Member diaries in profile - Signature statistics And thanks to those who had kind words for Inline Moderation tools ;). Oblivion Knight 27th January 2005, 08:20 PM - TVS (Template Versioning System)Sounds intriguing.. ;) daemon 28th January 2005, 03:40 PM Sounds intriguing.. ;) It's quite handy, yet annoying and a database hog all at the same time. It stores a copy of the template each time you save and prompts you for a "commit" message. Then you can go back and "diff" templates from one version to the next. |
