I've used CMPS and VBindex and both have a lot of strong points but ulimately it comes down to what your looking to do. I think that certain types of sites need functions that just arent available as of yet with them.

Hello ja3;

I've used php-nuke, postnuke, xoops and e-xoops

vBulletin is not a CMS system by itself. It is Forum software only. Like phpBB or Invision

You can use a CMS system with it, Actually there are quite a few that are free.
VBIndex, vbAdvanced for example, I use vbAdvanced

There is one, that you can buy that makes vBulletin into a full blown portal, like e-xoops, xoops, or php-nuke called vbPortal. Actually all you have to do is donate a little to the site. but... Non-the less, it's an option.
I used to use it, but, I think it is to bulky.

But, vBulletin is not trash.

Far from it actually, it is easily the best forum software out there. Though it is not free like phpBB or Invision, or xoops, or any of the others.

Lets just say you get what you pay for. ;)

I use vbindex. It's not a full fledged CMS, but it serves my needs for now and I am quite happy with it.

Pulse, are you using IF conditionals to force the specific templates? (I was wondering about that being the easiest way for something else I had in mind)

I'm using vbA CMPS, but I'm really looking forward to the official vBCMS! :) I read a post at vb.com that stated that vb3.1 was currently in review, and that the release will make vBCMS possible! :D

I used the default functions from vBulletin to power our content on various pages, like frontpage.php, chat.php, style.php and more to come!

Hopefully, one day in the future, we will power our web site with the Jelsoft CMS, aside their forum software.

I use to use vbadvanced for a while, but I unistalled it cause it wasn't the right choice for my type of website. The reason was that it wasn't easy at that time to update/create pages, and also modifying the templates of it. Also like someone mentioned, current versions of vbulletin CMS's lack some cool features that other cms's have, hopefully they will get to those features in their future versions, or maybe they already have I don't know.

One would be to easily access/create new pages and articles from admin cp, also being able to customize each pages template differently and organizing the blocks for each page differently.

you just have to see what you really want out of your site and what you want your users/visitors to see your site as, that way you'll have a better chance to make the right descision,

hope that helps,
sean s.

Till that day we have vBPortal V3 which is a CMS still in beta (beta 5 now, soon RC), the rest what calls it CMS are just homepage editors ;)
See my site for a vBP demo :D

I've tried both versions of vbAdvanced, but felt that they were somewhat limited.

I'd much rather have a separate site anyway.. :)

I use vBadvanced CMPS. I love it. If I were better at PHP and using the vB code I'd make my own pages but since I'm not I use vBa and I'm very satisfied with it :).

I've been eager to install vBA, but meet alot of resistance from co-admins. We're testing out our own sollution.

Hello all,
I use vBadvanced on the site. I've used portal systems before such as phpnuke, Xoops, YaPP, MyIBF, ttcms, and a beta one for my SMF. The 2 biggest things I miss are the ability to specify and/or group posts by content or topic with image and the ability to specify where the portal should display throughout forum without code modifications.
The VBA is a nice portal but not a fully functional, user friendly CMS as to what I am used to. It is the best free one nicely integrated with vB out there that I could find however.
* I am not looking this nice, free portal in the mouth, shall we say, just voicing a humble opion of this no nothing code lacky and am honored to have this portal available to us.
I do wish vB would have a CMS system more closly resembling the features as phpnuke or even Mambo offers.
;)
