Let's say you don't have a vB 2 or a vB3 license.

Would you use vB 1 instead or would you move over to use a different script?

I'd probably use vB 1 for a while at least. I've never had much of a chance to try it out, but when I first saw it, at least it looked better than ezboard for me. ^^

For what reason would I use vB 1.x if it were still available? vB3 is the next-generation in bulletin boards, plus security is much higher than in the 1.x series.
Pointless if I may express my oppinion.
Furthermore, you can't have a license for only 1 major vBulletin release. The license covers all major releases (e.g 1.x, 2.x, 3.x).

I guess it's the same thing as saying "if 8-Track Tapes came back would you use them" type question. Or... like if fashions from the 70s came back would you wear them... oh wait, that's already happened. x_x;

I think what he means is if you couldn't get your hands on a VB 2 or 3 license, as in it was impossible, would you use VB 1, or chose another forum software, like phpbb.

I personally don't know, because the first VB forum I was a part of ran 2, and that was the earliest forum I belong to.

No, for security reasons I won't use it.

And my other valid point, there is no 'vBulletin 1 only' license. There's just a vBulletin license, that covers all major releases.

i would use vB1 on a dev board or something for laughs :)

cna anyone remember the vBulletin Retro board which was running vB1, it had a great chance of winning vBotm but it got disqualified because they thought it was a joke entry. I cant remember the URL :(

I'd run it for laughs on April Fools Day but I would go with another forum solution for production use if I couldn't run vb3 (or vb2 at the least).

vB1 was awesome, but it's just too out of date now when it comes to bulletin board functionality and security.

If it were available (like as a just for fun download in the members area) for use on a private directory (htaccess'd and such) it would be fun to try out.

No, due to insecurity and lack of features, it will be useless for what I require in a forum.
But if it is the only version, yes. I'd pick it over IPB and phpBB and UBB and the lot.
