Hi guys, I am new here and about to purchase vBulletin as soon as I can find someone to host it..

I have run a successful forum since 2002. By 2004 we were getting spammed, hacked and had tons of problems with phpBB so we switched to IPB. We have good google rank so we get several new hits a day, but since since we went all paid we retain about 100 members. With this move I plan on allowing free members on again and jumping back up to around 500 members. I don't expect to do much more growing after that ... we usually have maybe 50-100 active members on IPB, but going free may change the number of active users at a time.

With my IPB board I purchased the license and was dumped from 2 servers, consecutively, one was a VPS. Its not an experience I'd ever care to repeat because it was horrifying that they didn't live up to their promises... At that point we went to Invision Host, who runs the forum for $40/month.. I run a specific site and it doesn't have enough traffic to justify a dedicated server, it never did. We've been fine on the same plan with IPB for the last 3 years. One problem: IPB is the crappiest host ever! They finally burned me for the last time suspending my service for the entire weekend with no support.

I am not sure if IPB is that comparable to vBulletin as far as database inquiries or not? I don't want to purchase a vBulletin license only to find that I am unable to run it without a dedicated host. I am a little distressed that vBulletin doesn't provide hosting for their product if it may cause problems with traditional hosts...

I need some guidance! Where can a girl get a decent VPS for a mid-traffic site?

Thanks in advance!

Hilary
