My best tip is to avoid Blackhat SEO. Blackhat SEO is a vast topic that commands little respect from real webmasters as it means using underhand methods to gain search engine rankings, although the site is usually banned quickly.

Blackhat SEO includes using link farms, search engine spamming, hidden or disguised text, fake meta tag data, using duplicate content and using doorway pages. I would recommend you stay away from tactics like this as you will end up losing out in the long run.

My first suggestion would be start heading away from paid links. Matt Cutts has stated a few times that paid links will eventually become obsolete and have no effect on your rankings.

Personally I'd rely on good, quality content. Do a bunch of honest advertising to get the word out and rely on your user's to pump up your site. The bots will do the work.

I believe that your ranking has a lot to do with proper meta tags & descriptions. A lot of people underestimate the power of them (specifically descriptions) so they'll not bother creating one.

Submit your links to very new sites that potentials of growing into a popular one. These sites will start demanding backlinks or payments when they achieve a good pr.

Its like investing in super funds. :D
