That would stop it all together
Floris 25th February 2007, 01:49 AM vBulletin does not offer this by default (first post - counts, follow ups - dont). This would require customizing the forum software. I have no idea how to do that :(
Distance 25th February 2007, 01:50 AM Yeah it would require a plugin.. You know anyone who could do this?
Floris 25th February 2007, 01:56 AM Erhm, perhaps Chroder knows. He is pretty good with vBulletin.
Distance 25th February 2007, 02:01 AM Chroder get your ass here.. *throws Floris aside* :p
Chroder 25th February 2007, 05:46 AM Best ask at vBorg, I think. I could do it, but I really don't have time. If I get around to doing it I'll reply to this thread and let you know.
Getting the posts not to count should be fairly easy. The only "hard" part would be fixing the way the recount posts (in maintenance) works I think. Can't say without looking at the code ;)
But if you wanted to attempt it yourself, look for a hook in newreply.php or perhaps class_dm_threadpost.php. You'd just need to add a little hack to make posts not count if the forumid is your intro forum.
Distance 25th February 2007, 05:51 AM Ask vbulletin.org ?
Damn :(

Let's think about this in another way.
You don't want replies to threads in this section to add to post counts, okay, turning "Count Posts Made in this Forum Towards User Post Counts" to "no" would accomplish this.
You do, however, want the first post of a new thread to count. But this is an "Introductions" forum, so I suspect that you only want people to start one thread--otherwise your post-count-obsessed members will simply introduce themselves over and over.
So, now the problem becomes how to add one to the postcount of each of the people who introduce themselves by starting a thread in that forum.
How many people is that a week?
Maybe there's a way to make their postcount say "less than 20" until they have posted 21 times--and by then, they'll never notice that they didn't get credit for that intro post.
Distance 25th February 2007, 04:30 PM Well people only make an intro post on my forum but then other members just sit there on a day and go through every single intro post and reply to them which boosts there post count up.
Many users have over 450 posts from the introduction section for replying to them.
Users cannot reply to content or see some content until they post an introduction and this is based on the fact they must have 1 post count
So turning off post count for that forum would meant they would never be able to see hidden content.
So i want new threads in the intro forum to add to the post count
and replies to not do so
darnoldy 25th February 2007, 09:51 PM Users cannot reply to content or see some content until they post an introduction and this is based on the fact they must have 1 post countOkay, so there's a new piece of information. I assume you're using usergroup promotions to accomplish this.
So, now the problem is, can we set up a forum so that the posts from one user group count, and other usergroups do not.
Distance 25th February 2007, 11:30 PM No because im not using the standard vB way, im using Cyb Advanced User Permissions based on post count
Distance 27th February 2007, 11:08 AM Bump ^^!!
sweep 28th February 2007, 03:06 PM Iа I were you I'd create new supforum for that.
Distance 1st March 2007, 06:16 PM That made little sence whatsoever
Distance 4th March 2007, 05:56 AM Damn no response

I am happy to be corrected, but I don't think you can do this with vB. It is very easy to prevent all posts in a specific forum area from adding to post count, but I don't know of a way to allow the thread starters posts to add but no one else's.
Is there a specific reason you don't want people to have a higher post count?
Distance 5th March 2007, 10:13 AM Well kind of, yes.
When you see users who make good quality posts at like 10 per day then you see someone else posting about 50 Hi welcome messages its poor that they should be owning them on the top posters list or just having higher post count.
Also we give Vip to active users and people just post Hi's and expect vip also which is funny..

Fair point, but in that case I would disable post count in those forum areas. It does penalize nOObies, but that is a smallish price to pay, especially as you want to encourage people to answer and ask questions.
You can also give nOObies rep or similar for posting, that way they are rewarded for taking the time to introduce themselves.
Distance 8th March 2007, 07:08 PM Read the thread ;)
I need intros to add 1 post count so it lets them see certain content and allows them to reply :)
Distance 11th March 2007, 04:45 PM Bump :) :)
Distance 13th March 2007, 04:56 AM Bah i give up,
