Wanted to open a thread on the best methods for combating spam on vbulletin forums. I recently added the email verification requirement and get much less spam now. I heard about blocking users IP addresses for repeat spammers - can someone explain how to do this? :)

I think that you have to provide quality moderation. Block IP - good idea. But honest members will be able banned because of spammers.

You may block IPs with the help of .htaccess.

Apart from blocking Internet Protocol Addresses, there's a option of a strong, formal statement and making an attempt to actually settle the spam and off-topic[-ness].

At WMT we've found blocking IP's pretty effective for known spammers that keep coming back, it seems they don't try very hard to get around them (apposed to say, troublesome users that just want trouble).

I usually block IP's for a month, and note it in the Admin forums.
Then i will un-block them, if they come back i will perm block the IP's..

I made a guide on this site. No clue where it is now. Look for an anti bot/span guide by me! :D
