Folks-

A while back, I managed to Install vBulletin 3.5.x, now its time for me to upgrade to 3.6.x. What do I need to know?

I have downloaded and unzipped the files. Do I just upload them to my server and overwrite the existing files? Should I uninstall my plugins before I upgrade? What is most likely to go wrong and how do I prevent it?

Well, before you do anything, I would create a backup of your database (via SSH as it is the most reliable), and a complete back-up of your existing forum files.

Then, I would load all of these to a test area and perform your upgrade there. That way if anything breaks in a major way your public site won't be down. ;)

Once you have established that there are no problems, you can start your RL update. If you have created that test space on your webserver (make sure the test space sits behind .htaccess) you can simply move the files an over write your existing forum files. Then run the updater and hey presto, you have one upgraded forum.

This is just a rough guide, I expect other members can elaborate more. :)

I would also check out the vBulletin documentation for a little bit more information: http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/upgrade
