View Full Version : Moderators or Super Moderators?

Whenever I run a forum I prefer to have all my staff (except my trusted admins, with limited permissions of course ;)) as super moderators, as opposed to choosing individual moderators for each forum. I do still assign them their "specialty" forums to keep an eye on more than others but I find it's always benefitted me to allow them to moderate every forum.

The main advantage is that if any user has a problem with a post/thread/member any moderator will be able to assist no matter where it is.

This could work out badly too if they're given too much power (i.e. mass pruning) and one of them goes sour...

I want to know what setup people prefer to use on their forums and how it benefits them when it comes to managing their forums and staff setup! :)

All my staff are SuperMods too. I use to assign people to forums, but then had the problem of a moderator locking a thread, moving it to a new forum and then not being able to unlock the thread as their powers did not extend to the new forum area they had moved the thread too.

Also, if I appoint someone as staff, I only do it cause I trust them. And if I trust them I don't have a problem with them being able to moderate posts in all forums.

I agree with robert. All my staff are super moderators. But, I trust them, and if I didnt, they wouldnt be staff.

I do know it is impossible to know if a trusted friend will become sour at some point in time, best thing is to make backups every two weeks or every month.

Just make sure to try to talk out any problems the staff member is having. If they are having a bad day, or are upset of something, just ask them whats up and you know, be there alittle. And if you suspect any sort of malicious thoughts they may be having, reduce their powers to that one "specific" forum you assigned them to.
