I have banned two trouble-makers by their usernames, e-mail addresses and IP addresses. Yet they're still able to log-in. They are showing as current members online in the "What's Going On?" box.

I went to the Admin. CP but all permissions are set to NO in the "banned" usergroup. So why are they still able to log in?

"Banning" a user doesn't block them from your site completely. That's impossible. I've been banned because of dumb reasons, and logged out and viewed the site as a guest from different IPs. If they are at school or something, they can be dumb enough and login and get the "Banned" message. There's a BUNCH of ways to still log in when your banned. :(

Simply because to be banned you have to be logged in. So they system will allow you to log-in, but will not allow you to do anything else.

If it really bugs you just delete their account, and then add their IP address to the list of IPs which are not allowed to join your forum. ;)

Ah yes! That's what I need to do. Thanks for the tips!

It is hard to keep trouble makers out. I have found the best way is to watch for IP addresses that are similar. Then after collecting the new IP's, I ban those too. I have seen some modifications at vb.org that work to keep trolls out, but I would not know if they work or not. Good luck.

I see this on a lot of forums, I scroll to the users online and legend has a color for banned and there will be a couple. They are maybe reading their reason for being banned or they just typed in the link and they were auto-logged in.
