Do you leave a redirect? Permanant or temporary? Why or why not?

Depends what kind of thread. For example, we have Ads and Offers forum on WMT and if someone posts a "Need to hire PHP coder" in the PHP forum, then I just move it to ads without a redirect. But if someone posts a Javascript question in HTML then I'll use a redirect.

Also, with the new redirection expiration, it's nice to make it stay for a day or so. This keeps everything nice and tidy.

Depends what kind of thread. That seems sensible.

I dont leave redirects, if it's in the wrong category then people won't be looking for it there, if it's spam, people dont need to know it existed.

I *usually* use a redirect, so people can find it. Most of the time, though, I'm moving the thread from the "general" forum to a specific-topic forum.

this is a matter of what kind of thread

it depends if i leave directs because i like to keep the forum clean but it really depends how much it is wrongly posted in a section such as if someone posted a music thread in a movie thread i might leave a direct but if someone posted a music thread in a help section etc i wouldent leave a direct it really depends on how relivant it is in the section.

i usually leave a redirect for 1 week only. unless moving it to "thrown threads" then no redirection.

I had used the redirect option for my article segment. I had 'knowledge base forum', and then specific category knowledge base forums. I moved the articles from knowledge base forum to specific Knowledge base category forums, and put the redirect. Thus users have both the options:
1. Browse articles category wise
2. Browse all articles in one forum.

I usually use an expiring redirect, I think it keeps things cleaner

I usually never leave a re-direct. I just find them obtrusive to the flow of the forum topics.
