The vBFans Network is sponsored by viper uk net - but I was wondering if anybody else out there is being sponsored by hosting companies?

nope, paying out of my own pocket... or out of the ads... or my clients pockets :D

we did have a sponsored game server at one point, but that is off-topic.

Nope, paying for it myself. Hosting a small forum (and smaller things liek a blog or something) does not cost much these days -- like $10 a month. My hope is if I outgrow a hosting solution that I can afford, then the forum will start generating enough revenue to support it.

Hosting paid for by advertising.

We have tried using advertising a couple of times but found most potential advertisers are too cheap to pay for it :-/

At the current time, I'm paying for my hosting out of my own pocket.. I prepaid in advance though, I'm pretty happy with the host that I have.. Advertising? My site is still a little small to have enough visitors to have advertising help out, so I simply don't have ads on my site. :p

I was wondering if anybody else out there is being sponsored by hosting companies? That you have a hosting company as a sponsor makes sense--your members are people who are likely to want their service.

If this were the "World o' Fishing Forum," I suspect that they would be less-eager to sponsor it.

Sadly no. :-( I agree with some of the posters in this thread that your forums content does have an effect. Lots of people often ask who is a good host for vB, so if you have a forum about vB with a hosting link I suspect lots of people may choose to take that path.

Though don't joke about the fishing forum. I do offer hosting and did sponsor a friends site (www.shorefishingaustralia.com.au). Needless to say no one was interested in having me host them. ;)

I can't say that I trust all these sponsors. But maybe I'm deadly wrong.

The google ads sponsor my site :)

They bring in just enough to pay the hosting ;)
