Once in a while a site can look like it is doomed, but thanks to the team of staff you can find the motivation and work together and get things going again.

For sure, without the right people by your side I don't think it's possible to run a successful <anything>.

Running a forum isn't easy, and thoughts of giving up are plentiful :D

When my forum looks dull at any point of time, I start a new one and I never give up on the earlier ones. This way it helps me to space out my dull feelings and help me to diversify.

Also during those time, I start modification of the forum board and try making new things.

I agree, but it does introduce a new problem. how to keep up with all your forums?

:) That is a point.

Well, it actually depend upon how much one can handle. Just because of number of forums increasing day-by-day I fear one day I would loose my day job ;)

I know enough people who quit their day job because they had a network of sites that were getting bigger and bigger and made enough money to support them.

That is very encouraging to hear. That itself can make forum administrators run the website during the doom period.
