?? Hmm, I doubt many of us could actually afford to buy a webhost. But luckily you only need to rent webspace from a host to run vBulletin. ;)

Check out some of the hosts here (http://www.thehostingchart.com/). So long as they are reliable and have a good support system almost anyone should be able to host vB for you. :)

Sorry, I misread your original question.

I don't know any free web-hosts, and would be a little cautious in using them. I dare say that some are reliable, but I have had friends who used free web-hosts and woke up one morning to find their site missing and the server offline.

Perhaps others have more positive comment about free hosting?

There is no best host, only the host that is best for you.

The being said, there are a number of free hosts out there, but vbulletin requires MySQL databases, PHP, and alot of resources, so I think you might be forced to shell out the cash here for a paid host. Try Site5, (http://www.site5.com/) or some people around here might be able to give you some cheap hosting.

Snow aka Isis :D I've been awol for a while I know.

Anyway, yes, I run aboho.com (http://www.aboho.com/forum/) which is a community based free webhost so basically members participate in the forum, they could help others or, if they're beginners, ask for help and in return we give our members the professional hosting (cpanel, fantastico, rvskin, no-ads blah blah).

To be honest however, most vbulletin admins prefer to get themselves paid hosting of some sort, although we (Aboho) don't have a problem hosting vbulletin powered websites and we're probably one of the few free hosts that has an excellent uptime.

There are a lot of free hosts out there but unfortunatly they do go offline a lot and are unrealiable. I currently use cankoo.com for my hosting but you have to post a bit on their board first. Its important that with free web hosts you take backups every few days so if your site ever goes bankrupt or offline for good, it won't cause any major damage or loss of posts when you find a new host.

It's always wise to take backups regularly regardless of whether you pay for the hosting or not. ;)

I do know a good webhost that also gives free resellers.. Its http://Cyber-ug.net/
Try to check their domain plans too.. I think you will like them...

For me in my experience if youre tight o budget these free hosts are already more than enough for you :)

You can't really say that there is indeed a single 'best webhost', primarily because of the fact that there are new webhosts every day, and sites like free-webhosts.com are adding new ones every day. You can never tell, really ... but I always look for the ones with the most space and the varieties of allowed scripting. All websites should be able to execute a 405 POST function, otherwise you would never be able to process any data.

You get what you pay for.

So I pay for professional hosting. I rather pay as investment knowing my site runs well.

I have to agree with Floris. You do get what you pay for. I ran a sit on virtuosonetsolutions.com for a bit, which is LogicWeb.com. They had a great service, and seemingly great rates, though I haven't seen if they went up with the new merge. Their customer service was shaky though, which should be a large part in your decision. Free hosts will often times have poor customer service, seeing as how they have up to thousands of people running sites, generally new coders, who have many problems.

I would recommend you find a host that will be able to help you out efficiently.

Most free hosts are real bad when it comes down to down time. I suggest you just buy a host. :D

I used to use a community based free hosting, but then I got dissatisfied by the downtime, service, and the attitude that "because it's free you can't complain". I switched to Site5 for a year, but I let it expire, and when I went to renew I had a small budget. Their low prices come when you signup a year in advance and they become inflated as the term you purchase lessens. I'm now on a plan from asmallorange.com and have yet to find a thing to complain about :)
