Hello,

You are a visitor on our web site, you are perhaps even registered. And maybe you even like forums, and hopefully you are into vBulletin powered communities. Anyway, you browse this web site for a reason.

One reason could be that you came here to chat, and we offer the forums and the topics to do so. That's just great. Please do! Everybody is welcome to post after they registered, and registration is free.

Another reason might be that you are interested in the vBulletin forum software. Maybe you purchased a license already, maybe you are interested in buying one and found this web site somehow.

Or maybe .. you are running a warez version and are looking for free resources for download .. because you can't download it legally from vBulletin.com / vBulletin.org , or because you need support and can't have it. In this case I think you are unlikely to join my friend list, and more likely to join our ban list.

Either owning a vBulletin license or not, perhaps you have an interest discussing piracy on some level. Perhaps you have great arguments why someone should or should not pirate software like vBulletin. Our web site is open to these discussions, but be warned: If we suspect you running vBulletin without a license we simply click a button and ban you.

But there is a web site where you can openly discuss this topic even more, where you can find information and piracy examples. You can find legislation links and discuss matters about the law and this web site can also ban you, but I don't make the rules there ..

I am talking about www.piratereportsforum.com

As webmaster of that web site I am responsible for the design, and as owner of this web site I get away with spamming it. So please discuss piracy in this thread if you want, and if you need more information about laws and copyright, or are interested in reading or posting piracy related news, join and register on pirate reports forum, and participate in discussions or start new ones.

Are you lame enough to not pay for copyrighted software? And if so, are you honest enough to admit that and discuss it openly here? Are you even brave enough to provide us with the web site where you run the forum? I am not trying to dare you, but I think you're just a coward and not admitting it because you know what you are doing is wrong.

Discuss in this thread why I am wrong. Or discuss in here the arguments why or why not someone should be allowed to run a warez version of vBulletin.

We are listening, and are open for discussion.

Oh, and yes .. I have a owned license for each vBulletin powered forum that I run. Because buying the software not only provides me with great free support from trained staff, but also gives me access to all kinds of free resources like language packs, graphic packs, button sets, styles, hacks, plugins, competitions, upgrades and updates, new versions, discounts on multiple licenses, etc. And it helps keep the price stable and helps pay for the developers to keep continueing their product at the high level it is. And I do not have to fear DMCA notices or even legal steps. I don't have to look over my shoulder and I won't have to screw my friends with legal issues by giving them free software that later on turns out to be a warez version.

www.piratereportsforum.com (http://www.piratereportsforum.com) rocks. I am not saying that because I am the second most prolific poster on there, but because Howard tackles issues that need discussing. His advice is always to the point and the threads there have really made me think not just about Piracy but the future of the net in general.

So do yourself a favor and jump on into a discussion there. Your life will be richer for it. :)

For all of you pirates out there with vBulletin, it really is a lot easier to just buy a license - save up $160. Go rake up some leaves, help some old people, sell your neighbors dog (or their car!) or dance in the street in your underwear and hold out your hat for spare change. Seriously though, it's a lot easier just to pay for it, instead of constantly worrying and trying to decieve people to get what you need. If you want to run a sucessful community, pay for the software you run or it'll get shut down. You can't run a good community if it gets shut down now, can you?

If you don't have the money, download phpBB or SMF or a free forum - it's that easy :D

I can't stand people who pirate something. I've reported people before where it was just on their local machine "testing it out". I hope this forum helps catch them if that's evne possible :)

How much is this going to cost me guys.:D

The idea of the PR forum is simple:

I want an information source which people can go to FIRST for some direct information even if they end up somewhere else later for some finer detail.

As time progresses I want to review content which is being speedily added to make a visit worthwhile in the first place, and to improve on it with specialist input and features.

Without a good membership the experts won't see the forum as being worthy of their valuable time and without content now I wont get membership so building the forum up is currently the agenda.

It seem as though generally the thumbs are up which is a great strat to the project.

uhh I download warez sometimes....

Yeah I originally got vBulletin off a warez site because I didn't want to buy it. But after I saw that it was really good and the community at vb.com and here was/seemed really nice and I wanted support and free hacks/mods if I every needed it/them. So yeah. That's it. Now I need to save up to buy my owned license on may 30th...which isn't going to be very easy and I'm wondering if I can continue to fund my forums with vbulletin or if I have to shut them down or what. We'll see what happens when we get there I guess :)

I am glad you consider vBulltin to be worth purchasing. If your forum is popular you should have no problem getting donations to help you cover the cost. I suggested this to a person one day and before the day was out a rich kid paid the whole cost. Give it some thought.

Very cool. If only I could find that sort of financial support.

I initially rented my copy of vB for a year and as my forum was popular in my community opted for a bought license.

To offset some of the cost of hosting and licensing I introduced paid subscriptions and since opening my board have had 6 people pay the $15 (Aussi).

I am guessing that I am missing something in the marketing mix. :(
