View Full Version : Username Colours (Colors)
Robert 25th December 2005, 10:43 AM I like to differentiate between usergroups. So on my board I have a colour for:
Admins
Senior Staff
Junior Staff
Company staff
Paid membersDo you use username colours?
Derek 25th December 2005, 06:21 PM Yes, they are very handy because they help point out who is staff. For admins I usually make their color Blue, bold, and italicized, for Super mods I usually make them red and bold, and for mods I usually make them green and bold...
ben2005 26th December 2005, 06:20 AM i sure do! i have them diffrent to dereks tho.... Admin Super ModModhehe, bet that looks strange to you! lol
Robert 26th December 2005, 06:40 AM A little. I have Admin, SMod, Mod, Benefactor, CMJ Staff
adb22791 26th December 2005, 08:56 PM Yeah I have colors for staff names as well. Its kindof cool, and helps point out who is staff. However you have to be careful not to overdo your colors :).
Walim 27th December 2005, 12:21 AM in our board we have color Admin/MOD/SuperMOD .. :)

Especially if you have both light and dark styles.
Some colours look great on a white/light background but you can't read them on a black/dark one and vice versa.
Neeto 3rd January 2006, 06:23 PM I would prefer making a small icon for the different staff/important members.
turblety 3rd January 2006, 06:50 PM On my forum I only have different colors for the staff members. for example moderators have one color, super moderators another, and the administrators have another.
However, if users get 5000 points they are allowed to have a custom color aslong as its different from the admin/smod/mod
That way works well for me, and I like the idea about putting an icon beside the username, but I don't think I can do that with phpBB.

Neeto 3rd January 2006, 06:57 PM Ah. vB has pre and post field, so you can wrap them in css or an image before or after, or even both.
DarkWarriorXII 3rd January 2006, 11:39 PM I have different usergroup colors:
Admins
Super Mods
Junior Staff (Mods, Writers, etc.)
Contributing Members
Regular Members (normal font)

I am a big fan of icons too. But if you only have icons how would people know who is who on the home page etc where icons are not displayed?
adb22791 4th January 2006, 03:00 AM Yeah, colors stand out alot more than icons. Plus if you have premium membership than your members will have special icons.
Neeto 4th January 2006, 04:36 AM You add them right before or after the username using the pre and post fields. Then they do appear on the index.
Robert 5th January 2006, 02:35 AM Nifty idea. I hadn't thought of that.
But, playing devils advocate again, would it not lead to a rather large who's online box? The number of images would start to stack up after a while. :)
adb22791 5th January 2006, 03:06 AM Yeah, especially if you used rectangular images.
Neeto 5th January 2006, 03:16 AM Right, but as I said, I like SMALL icons. Trust me, my small is small. lol I work in pixels.
e3test 5th January 2006, 09:23 AM i have color for : admin / super mod / mod
KFJ 5th May 2006, 11:40 PM Does anyone know how to add strikethrough for banned members?
Robert 6th May 2006, 12:49 AM For each user group you have the option of adding HTML tags.
Simple use <s> for the opening tag and </s> for the closing tag and that should do the trick. ;)
KFJ 6th May 2006, 01:49 AM ahh ha! Thanks
