View Full Version : Ever throught about just closing your forum? Floris 10th December 2005, 11:49 AM Ever had that moment where you just thought 'i should just throw away the database and let the site die' ????? And? Did you? DarkWarriorXII 10th December 2005, 05:12 PM I've done this plenty of times. Every forum I've opened has died. But my latest one is going good... :D I just hope it stays like that. I'm sure it will though considering I'm basically the only forum with my topic. Derek 10th December 2005, 06:55 PM Yup sounds familiar lol. It has happened to me many times. Chroder 10th December 2005, 08:00 PM Yeah. But there are usually people around me (other staff, friends) who are like, "are you out of your f**king mind?!" so I don't ever do it :p Robert 11th December 2005, 01:18 AM Only once. But then I was thinking about leaving dance, so I was going to hand my board to some else to manage rather than removing it from the net. Too many people like it for that. I guess I am lucky in that my online community is just an extension of a physical community. People come and go, just like life, be the community survives. :) TheComputerGuy 30th December 2005, 12:17 AM yeah I have thought about it. OVer some chick who didn't like my site. She told me it was her or the board... I really do miss her. adb22791 30th December 2005, 02:04 AM Yes, and I actually have done it. I still have the SQL databases, but I deleted the directory for the forum. I didn't like the topic, SEO was awful, and it just wasn't fun. I use the license for something better now :D Neeto 30th December 2005, 03:06 AM I've done it. I have had badluck in finding someone to take over for me. I find good helping hands, but it is rare to find someone to take it up as their baby and keep it going. Most people give up when they see the forum does not run it's self. Pyro 30th December 2005, 06:25 AM I've thought about doing it a few times, but I never really had the heart. I closed a few of my sites, but most of them really just died in the design stages, partly because my site at the time was basically a textbased roleplaying site where everyone would have their own character - it'd basically be like a live ongoing book. My problem was I couldn't find enough people who were familiar with the concept or willing to help out. mf 30th December 2005, 06:37 PM My board is "dead", and currently in the scaffoldings for a major revamp and relaunch somewhere in 2006! I'm using my old database, but the whole scope of the site has changed. Neeto 30th December 2005, 07:15 PM I've thought about doing it a few times, but I never really had the heart. My problem was I couldn't find enough people who were familiar with the concept or willing to help out. That is something I actually enjoy doing as well. And yes, it can be hard having a consistency in membership as well as activity. |
