Which Display Mode Do You Prefer?

I personally like the Linear Mode, I don't really understand the other 2 lol.

So which do you like?

Linear just because most users will never use Threaded (and therefor Hybrid) correctly. If a post hierarchy was forced (ie. like on slashdot), then I would choose to browse in Hybrid mode.

I use linear. My members don't even have the option of using the other modes.

i use linear everywhere but vbulletin.com where i use threaded, i believe. as most forums i use don't require a clicking of the QR button, using other than linear is just confusing

Yeah, I have trouble getting used to the other two, so I just disable them on my forum for everyone.

Linear. I have only ever used it, so find the others strange and frightening. :)

Linear, since thats what most people are comfortable with (most of the other big name forum software is linear).

The default one, it's much easier.

I use Linear, because as Chroder stated, without enforcing the actual threaded reply system, threaded/hybrid wouldn't make much sense to anyone :) Heck, even if you did replies properly, threaded/hybrid wouldn't make much sense to people ;)

I suppose a good next question would be do you enfore the reply system and if not why not?

I do enforce it as I allow my members to switch viewing modes and I like order in my world.

I was thinking about using threaded on my next project, but it seems too complicated. lol
In theory I would like some way of indenting the posts so you could see where they fall under. But then the effects of my drug overdose wears off and I realize what an idiot I am for thinking that.

Does anyone even understand hybrid mode? Is there any sense to it?

I don't understand Threaded or Hybrid lol.

Threaded is like the old school message boards. In order to read a whole thread you have to click through each individual post. But you can see the conversation orders in threaded.

For instance, there can be sub-conversations within a conversation, and with threaded mode, you can completely ignore the off shoot posts.

Ahh ok. It still looks confusing lol. I think I'll stick with Linear :P

I don't think it is the display mode that is causing your confusion. :p

I have been experimenting with different display modes. The first thing I took note of is that there needs to be a <br /> at the end of the listthreads (or whatever it's called) template or there is a gap in the page.
The second thing I noticed is that it would be a whole lot more useful if you could a)turn off linear mode globally if you wanted, and b)Use a threaded forumdisplay mode (which could be a user option, or replace the the flat display).

That's just my 2 cents.

I'm a linear type of guy. One way or another.

Threaded is just more of a pain to deal with. No one on my forums even uses Thread either.
