In your eyes, without trying to flame, rant, etc others, what is a portal, what makes a portal, what should be on a portal. And what is a CMS, what makes a CMS and what should be on a CMS.

What are the differences, the requirements, and keep in mind vBulletin :D

Give me examples, visuals, urls to sites that use it, whatever you think qualifies to keep this battle going and teach everybody and perhaps come to a compromise.

Can we end this battle? Your turn to make the next move.

I see a portal as a way to look into the forums but still retain the feeling that you are just peeking instead of being there.

A CMS seems more like a system more distanced from the forum due to having more branches away from the forum, but it still has the same ability to peek into the forum found in the portal.

I would see a portal system as:
TLD
...Portal
......Forum
......Gallery
......Chat

I see a CMS system as:
TLD
....CMS
....|...|__Articles
....|...|__Product Descriptions, other website content pages
....|...|__Blog Systems, WIKI
....|
....|__Forum (vb)
....|__Gallery (vb based)
....|__Chat (vb based)

sorry if I'm confusing.. that's the best I can explain it I guess
