I'm looking into rewriting the Activity Level check. What I have now:

if user has 0 posts and has not visited the site for a month or longer, he is inactive

everyone else is considered active


This isn't entirely accurate as a reflection on activity levels, imo. However, I'm not sure what most people want. So, I've made a poll with a bunch of options to choose from, please vote for what you think is the best method of deciding User Activity. :)

I would say that your method of determing activity is okay, but maybe the time needs to be shortened. A month is a long time, however 2 weeks is a better time frame (15 days for nice roundingness). So I think you should keep it to where it checks posts and forum browsing (I have some memebers who only read).

OR

You could make Different designations. Those with posts in the past x days are active, those who have only read the board could be considered something like an "active reader" or something to that effect (so it would be based soley on last forum activity), and then everybody that hasn't posted in x days (thus being active), or read in x days (reader), would be inactive.

Having different activity catagories would be good!

I like the one where you have staged activity levels with days for different post-levels, hopefully it will be a customisable level if it goes ahead :)

I think 15 days is silly, it should be 14 ;)

I may create an 'algorithm' for it, that you can customize to your own needs via vB Options...

last visit more than 6 weeks-2 months

30 days is good enough for me, but making it an option would be best suited for individual preference. and imo make this an even better hack. :)

How about this:

3 vB Options:
- Specify amount of days since a user's last visit that must have passed before a user is treated as INACTIVE: (number of days, from 0 to 999) [numerical input]
- Users with X posts or less will be considered INACTIVE (specify X as a number of posts) [numerical input]
- Condition is a combination of the above two options (AND instead of OR in the query) [yes|no]
